This
past July saw the BC Inline Hockey Association award the 2nd Annual
BCIHA Scholarship to Mark Silvanovich
of the North Shore Inline Hockey League.
Mark
has proven to be an avid roller hockey player at both the House
League and Rep Levels since 1999. He has been involved in this sport
as a player and referee.
Beyond
Mark's roller hockey commitments he has also shown to be an exceptional
student-athlete with a GPA of 4.0 in both Grade 11 and Grade 12.
In addition, Mark has routinely scored in the top 25% both National
and International Math Contests.
The
2004 Scholarship Award is in the amount of $500.00 and will assist
Mark in his post-secondary pursuits at the University of British
Columbia. Mark's long-term goals include a Bachelor of Applied Sciences
and a career in Automotive Engineering.
This
is the second year in a row for the North Shore Inline Hockey League
to be the home league of the BCIHA's Scholarship winner. 2003 saw
Mark Russell win the inaugural award. Russell also attends the University
of British Columbia.
The
BCIHA Scholarship is to reward excellence in both scholastic and
roller hockey pursuits. The successful applicant is a student-athlete
who has balanced his/her high academic achievements with significant
success as a roller hockey player and contributor to the community.
Scholarship
awards are selected based on the following criteria:
- Must
currently be playing in a BCIHA-Member League.
- Minimum
of 3.0 GPA for Grade 11 and 12
- No
game misconduct penalties during current season.
- Participation
in a minimum of 2 Seasons of Roller Hockey prior to the 2004 Regular
Season.
- Participation
in the 2004 Roller Hockey Season at a BCIHA Member League.
- Must
be attending school in BC in their 1st year of Grade 12.
- Plan
to attend an accredited Canadian University or College, starting
no later than September 2005.
- Coach
and/or League Director's recommendation.
- Teacher's
recommendation.
- Volunteer
activities related to roller hockey.
