November 1, 2004 - For Immediate Release
The BC Inline Hockey Association has successfully
applied to have Inline Hockey included in the 2006 BC Summer Games
to be held in Kamloops, BC.
After submitting its application in February 2004,
the BCIHA has been anxiously awaiting news on the application. The
Games Society is pleased to have inline hockey included for the
first time.
The BC Summer Games will see teams from the 8 BC
Games Sport Zones compete in a tournament format. Teams will be
selected at Zone Evaluation Camps in early 2006.
Players born in 1991-92 will have the opportunity
to compete against the top players from their respective zones and
ultimately against the top players from around the province. After
competing in the Zone Evaluation Camps, 8 Zone Teams will be formed
to compete at the Summer Games in Kamloops. This tournament will
see the top inline hockey players from all over the province converge
for 3-days of top-notch roller hockey action.
The BCIHA will soon begin canvassing the different
zones around the province to establish a Zone Co-ordinator, Coaching
Staffs and identifying top referees for inclusion in this great
event.
The BC Summer Games will serve as the first step
in the BCIHA's High Performance Program for elite players, coaches,
and referees.
BC becomes the second province to have inline hockey
included in the Summer Games. Alberta has seen inline hockey included
in its 2002 and 2004 Summer Games.
More information will be available soon.
